I don’t buy the “some kids are just math people” story. After seven years, I have too many counterexamples. Most of what a student believes about being good or bad at math is something an authority figure once told them — not a fact about their mind. Diligence is the variable you actually control, and it’s the one that moves the outcome. My job is to direct it. I’ve watched students who arrived sure they were “bad at math” become honors students inside a year.

I’m Christian Evans. I’ve tutored mathematics for about seven years and have been the go-to instructor for the toughest cases at the center where I teach.
